Mercedes have promised us the E300 Bluetec Hybrid in Ireland within weeks. This will be, according to Mercedes, the most economical luxury car available on the market.
The E300 Hybrid is available in both saloon and estate and is expected to be priced at around €55,000, or 10% more than the equivalent E250CDI
Power comes from a 2.2 four cylinder diesel engine and a 20kw electric motor. Being hybrid its charged by its own engine power with no external plugin points.
Combined fuel economy is promoted as being 4.2l/100km and CO2 is 109g/km putting it in the very affordable band A road tax bracket, a low 160 per annum for the moment.
Ciaran Allen, sales manager for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars said alongside the many other environmentally positive models in the Mercedes-Benz range, the E300 heralds the beginning of a new era in hybrid drive systems. With no restrictions in terms of spaciousness, comfort and safety, it exhibits impressive efficiency that will appeal to a significant section of the Irish motor market
