Opel will add the latest version of their mid-sized saloon to the Astra line up this September completing the updated Astra’s body styling choices.
For a saloon with a 460 litre boot it doesn’t look awkward nor does it look like it committed the sin of just simply adding an out of proportion lump to the rear. Stealing its lines from the Insignia this new Astra looks like it might just be able to pull it off and be considered a threat by the competition.
Engine choices initially are made up of three petrol engines, a 1.4i (100hp), 1.6i six-speed automatic (115hp) and a 1.4 turbo (140hp) and three diesels ranging from 95hp to 130hp with the 1.7 CDTI ecoFLEX models with Start/Stop system boasting consumption figures of 3.7 litres per 100 kilometres. Expanding on this engine range early next year the new Astra four door will benefit from the launch of Opel’s new SIDI ECOTEC four-cylinder 1.6 turbo charged petrol engine.
The new Astra saloon (Length/Width/Height: 4,658/1,814/1,476 mm) has a wheelbase of 2,685 mm and provides generous interior space. Its separate boot compartment offers 460 litres of volume – 90 litres more than the five-door model. By folding the 60:40 split rear bench flat the luggage volume can be increased up to a maximum of 1,010 litres.
