The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is ranked among one of the most prestigious events on the classic car calendar. Rescued and run by the BMW group since the late nineties it’s a great place to get up close to some rare classics and handbuilt concepts and a great chance to meet the designers who’ve built them.
This year the excitement of the event was heightened by the unveiling of a collaboration between BMW and design house Zagato, the one off road legal concept is for now simply named BMW Zagato Coupe.
The long bonnet and kamm tail is unmistakably a Zagato design, the only thing separating it from former incarnations is the trademark BMW grille and headlight arrangement. It has only been unveiled as a concept and there has been no hint of it going into production or what power unit is fitted, although it is a driving concept and has been spotted speed testing.
We can only hope that it will be the future of the Z4 or at least a close replica.
