Kia concept at Frankfurt

I love concept cars and of course they play a vital role in future car design, but aren’t they supposed to be radical? The Kia concept reminds me of already produced cars like the Jaguar XF or even the angular Alfa Romeo SZ.

Kia chief design officer, Peter Schreyer, said

No matter which perspective you look at it, this concept car is roaring with energy and ready for take off. I believe the car is a strong statement from Kia, we are ready to fast forward to an all new chapter.

Real cars to be featured at the show include a three door version of the new Rio and a facelifted Kia Soul.

The Frankfurt motorshow is open to the public from September 15th to 20th 2011.

FIAT Panda 4X4 Climbing

With the economy still stuck in a midlife crisis its becoming pretty expensive to drop the kids to school in a Range Rover.

Well Fiat have come up with the answer, an affordable 4X4, and with road tax a mere €156 per year a price tag of €14,295 and knocking out fuel figures of 6.0/100km it just makes so much sense.

Available from October, see fiat.ie for more.

VW Up! to debut at Frankfurt

The Up! will be the new small car offered by Volkswagen from December 2011 and according to VW it’s small but perfectly formed. It will come in three spec levels, Take Up! is the base model, Move Up! is the comfort model and High Up! is the top spec model.

There are also plans for an electric model, presumably called Plugged Up! or Hooked Up! or one of a million other ridiculous scenarios followed by Up!

The Up! will come with an optional City Emergency Braking system which will be automatically active at speeds under 21km/h, using a laser sensor to detect risk of collision.

They also come sporting a new generation of three-cylinder petrol engines, with outputs of 60 PS and 75 PS. Fuel consumption with BlueMotion Technology is 4.2 l/100 km (60 PS), and CO2 emissions for this version are less than 100g/km
